Cash-to-GoPay: Deposit Cash into Your Wallet via Merchants
Design a flow for topping up GoPay balance using physical cash.
Background

GoPay is widely used for digital payments, but not all users have easy access to online banking or linked cards. Many still rely on cash as their primary method of handling money. To bridge this gap, GoPay is exploring partnerships with convenience stores and agents that could allow users to convert physical cash into GoPay balance.

Context

This feature needs to be simple enough for first-time digital wallet users but also trustworthy and secure. The deposit flow should guide users from finding a merchant, initiating a deposit, and confirming that their balance has been updated.

Business Objective

Increase GoPay adoption among cash-reliant users, reduce barriers to wallet top-ups, and expand usage in areas with lower banking penetration.

Target User
  • Users who rely primarily on cash income (e.g., small business owners, students, gig workers).

  • Users in regions with low credit/debit card penetration.

  • People who want to quickly convert spare cash into digital balance for online services.

Core Problem

How can users confidently and easily deposit physical cash into GoPay through partner merchants without confusion or security concerns?

Challenge

Design the end-to-end UI flow that allows a user to:

  1. Find a nearby merchant/partner that accepts GoPay cash deposits.

  2. Generate or receive a unique deposit code/QR.

  3. Hand over cash to the merchant and confirm the transaction.

  4. Receive clear confirmation and balance update in-app.

Constraints
  • Must work for both low-tech users (simple, step-by-step) and existing GoPay users.

  • The process should clearly show transaction fees (if any) and minimum/maximum deposit amounts.

  • Must ensure transparency and trust (receipts, notifications).
