OVO – Calendar-Based Subscription Manager
Design a feature that helps OVO users track and manage recurring subscription payments with a calendar view.
Background

OVO is a leading digital wallet in Indonesia, widely used for payments, transfers, and bills. Many OVO users also pay for recurring subscriptions such as Netflix, Spotify, online games, productivity tools (like ChatGPT), and streaming services through their OVO balance or linked cards.

Currently, subscription charges are scattered and difficult to track. Users often forget upcoming billing dates, leading to unexpected balance deductions, overdrafts, or service interruptions.

Context

Subscription-based services are growing fast in Indonesia, especially for entertainment and productivity.

Competing wallets (GoPay, ShopeePay) provide basic bill reminders, but none offer a clear, centralized calendar view for all recurring payments.

A simple, visual subscription manager would improve financial control and trust in OVO as a primary payment hub.

Business Objective
  • Help users track, predict, and manage recurring subscription payments.

  • Reduce customer frustration from unexpected deductions.

  • Strengthen OVO’s position as a daily financial management tool, beyond just transactions.

Target User
  • Young professionals who subscribe to multiple entertainment and productivity apps.

  • Students balancing streaming/game subscriptions with limited budgets.

  • Families managing shared subscriptions (Netflix, Disney+, cloud storage, etc.).

Core Problem

How can OVO provide a clear, visual system for users to track, plan, and manage their subscription payments, while remaining simple and non-overwhelming?

Challenge

Design the UI flow + key screens for OVO’s subscription manager:

  1. A calendar dashboard showing upcoming subscription billing dates.

  2. Ability to add/manage subscriptions manually or detect them automatically from past transactions.

  3. Clear reminders/alerts before deductions occur.

  4. Simple options to pause, cancel, or switch payment methods for subscriptions.

  5. Provide monthly/annual overviews of subscription spending.

Constraints
  • Must align with OVO’s visual identity (clean, financial-first).

  • Should work for both heavy users (10+ subscriptions) and light users (1–2 subscriptions).

  • Avoid overwhelming users with financial jargon — keep it simple, visual, and predictive.

  • Data privacy must be respected (especially with 3rd-party subscription integrations).
