Tokopedia – Preloved Hub with Easy Seller Flow
A new section for verified preloved items where users can sell directly to Tokopedia without needing a seller account.
Background

Tokopedia is one of Indonesia’s largest e-commerce platforms, mainly focused on new products. However, the demand for preloved goods (fashion, gadgets, furniture, collectibles) is growing rapidly.

  • Currently, users must create a full seller account to list even 1–2 preloved items, which is tedious for casual sellers.

  • Many people prefer to let go of their items but don’t want the hassle of managing chats, pricing, and logistics.

  • Trust in preloved marketplaces is often low due to quality and authenticity concerns.

Context
  • Shopee, Carousell, and Instagram already tap into the preloved market.

  • Indonesian users are cautious about scams and counterfeit goods in second-hand markets.

  • A Tokopedia-mediated system could fill the trust gap, combining Tokopedia’s brand reputation with user demand.

Business Objective
  • Open new revenue streams in the circular economy (resale of preloved goods).

  • Reduce friction for users who only want to sell small quantities.

  • Differentiate Tokopedia from competitors by offering verified preloved sales.

Target User
  1. Casual sellers who want to sell a few preloved items without managing a shop.

  2. Buyers looking for cheaper, trustworthy preloved alternatives.

  3. Tokopedia itself, ensuring item quality and resale trust.

Core Problem

How can Tokopedia provide a seamless, low-barrier preloved selling experience while building buyer trust through verification and curation?

Challenge

Design the UI flow + key screens for a preloved hub inside Tokopedia:

  1. Preloved Hub Section – A dedicated tab where users can browse preloved items, with clear “Verified Preloved by Tokopedia” tags.

  2. Casual Seller Flow – A simple form to sell items directly to Tokopedia, no need for a seller account. (Upload photos + short description. → Tokopedia does suitability/quality verification. → Tokopedia sets resale price. → Seller gets payout once accepted).

  3. Verification Badge – Buyers see a badge confirming the item was inspected/verified by Tokopedia.

  4. Purchase Flow – Buyers shop preloved items with the same seamless checkout as new products.

  5. Transparency for Sellers – Simple status tracker: “Item received → Under review → Listed → Sold.”

Constraints
  • Must feel consistent with Tokopedia’s main ecosystem (not like a separate app).

  • Flow must be super simple for casual sellers (max 2–3 steps).

  • Ensure trust & safety: only allow categories Tokopedia can realistically verify (e.g., fashion, gadgets, home goods).

  • Avoid making it feel like a pawn shop — position as smart resale.
