Traveloka — Airport Lounge Add-On for Economy Passengers
Design an upsell flow for lounge access aimed at non-premium travelers.
Background

Traveloka already enables users to book flights, hotels, and add-ons like baggage and meals. However, airport lounge access is typically reserved for first-class and business passengers, or loyalty program members. Many economy travelers would still be interested in buying lounge access for comfort, productivity, or special occasions, but they currently lack an easy way to discover and purchase it.

Context
  • Lounges provide perks like comfortable seating, food, Wi-Fi, and a quiet space to wait.

  • Airlines and lounge operators often sell single-entry passes to non-premium passengers, but access is fragmented and poorly promoted.

  • Traveloka can offer lounge access as an add-on package during flight booking or as a post-booking upsell.

Business Objective

Increase ancillary revenue by offering airport lounge access as a paid add-on to economy passengers, while improving the overall travel experience.

Target User
  • Economy travelers seeking more comfort on long layovers.

  • Business travelers flying economy but needing space to work.

  • Families wanting a smoother airport waiting experience.

Core Problem

How might we integrate lounge access as a seamless add-on for economy passengers, so that it feels accessible, valuable, and easy to purchase within Traveloka?

Challenge
  • Design the lounge add-on experience that allows users to:

  • Discover lounge access availability when booking or after booking.

  • Understand the value (what’s included, duration, cost).

  • Select and purchase lounge access for eligible passengers.

  • Access their lounge entry pass (QR code, voucher, or e-ticket).

Constraints
  • Mobile-first experience.

  • Lounge details must be clear but not overwhelming (highlight only essentials: amenities, opening hours, location).

  • Pricing and eligibility must be transparent.

  • Flow should not disrupt the primary booking journey.
